Tensions escalates between BLA and Pakistan Coast Gaurd after following attack
A BLA attack on Pakistan Coast Gaurd in Balochistan killed three personnel on April 14, 2026, marking a significant escalation in the region. This time, the Baloch Liberation Army said they carried out their first-ever maritime operation. The shooting happened near Jiwani, a small coastal town about 80 kilometers from Gwadar port. In a video released by the group's media wing, Hakkal, the video shows armed men using a speedboat to intercept and open fire on a Pakistan Coast Guard patrol in the Arabian Sea, near the Iran border.
Three coast guard personnel died in the attack: Naik Afzal, Sepoy Jameel, and Sepoy Umar. The BLA announced that a newly formed naval branch the Hammal Maritime Defence Force was behind it. They're framing this strike as the start of a new campaign, taking their fight from dry land out onto the water. Of course, the Pakistani security forces and Balochistan's government quickly condemned the attack. Right away, they increased coastal surveillance. Balochistan's Chief Minister, Sarfraz Bugti, said they won't stand for this kind of violence and ordered law enforcement to file a full report on how the breach happened. Right now, investigators are trying to figure out how militants managed to organize a coordinated sea attack in such a key area-especially since it's so close to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor infrastructure.
Analysts say this could be a big tactical leap for the BLA. By hitting naval and coast guard targets at sea, the group is challenging Pakistan's ability to protect both its maritime borders and important trade routes. The attack has clearly rattled officials and sparked a wider review of security measures along the Makran coast. There's no question-this episode just raised the stakes for everyone involved.
